Once the stage, audience and type of risk in a risk management process has been identified the various approaches for communicating risk information must be determined.
Pre-testing of risk communication material or procedures
It is recommended that pre-tests be done to assess all risk communication programmes as these tests will greatly increase the probability of an effective exchange of information. Pre-testing can take different forms depending on the size, the format, and the purpose of the communication.
Organising focus groups appears to be the most effective and cost-efficient way of pre-testing material. Simulations and role-plays are also excellent settings for testing key messages.
